Bio:
Sharon's interest in naturals around her led to the
discovery of what could be done with pine needles.
She has been coiling with them since the late 70's.
She started by gathering them locally
for a couple of years, and then went to Florida and
"cleaned" some lawns (which made them very
happy), stuffed them into garbage bags and brought
them home. Later, she attended the IN Gourd Society
at the local county fair grounds and bought a
truckload, then went back to get another.
That trip was wonderful and her mind was racing with
ideas.
She bought the necessary tools, went to work cutting
and carving and sanding and staining and cleaning
and, and, and, adding pine needles to the gourds.
There are an
unlimited amount of ideas for both. People
occasionally call and ask if she wants what they
have just found, and she says of course, if it is
not alive. Among other naturals sometimes used are
yucca leaves, cattail leaves, walnut stems and of
course there was the log! My grandpa went with me to
the woods to show me what basswood is. As the log
soaked in the bathtub that winter, the teens in the
house grew weary of taking it out for a shower and
then knew they had to return it to the water.
Eventually, it was ready to pound off the layers of
bark and the teens were thrilled!
Along with the naturals, she has an avid interest in
photography. Many hours are spent driving along
country roads looking for an object to work with or
a great one to photograph. What a
combination!
Thank you for your interest.
