Bio: A Native Hoosier born in
Vigo County, Monty grew up around hunting, fishing,
trapping, mushroom hunting, arrowhead hunting,
ginseng hunting and generally traipsing through the
fields and woods.
With a developing interest in archaeology and
showing his artifact collection around the Midwest,
he became known as “Indiana Jones”
Monty was interested in drawing and painting from an
early age, taking a correspondence art course in his
younger days. But supporting a growing family and a
job in the offset printing trade kept him from
pursuing an art career until his retirement at age
sixty. He then started doing pyrography (wood
burning) and wood carving and soon branched into
acrylic painting.
Monty has taken several first and second place
awards at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. He was
awarded “Best of Show” in 2005 and again in 2006 in
the “Covered Bridge Art Association’s” Associate
Show at Rockville, Indiana.
Mo9nty now works from his home studio doing car and
pet portraits in addition to his wildlife and
landscape art. Monty and his wife Phyllis live in
Terre Haute, In and have three adult children. Monty
is one of the original founders of “River City Art
Association, Inc.”
