Bio:
My name is Mark Donham the sole craftsman at Deer
Run Studio. I call it Deer Run because the place
sits on a country corner at Catlin Rd and Deer Run
Rd in Parke County Indiana. The studio is in an old
church built in 1852. The huge cast iron bell still
rings from time to time in the steeple.
My background includes a Bachelor of Fine Art from
Indiana State University in 1983 and a Masters of
Fine Art from Arizona State University in 1987. Both
degrees had an emphasis in wood sculpture and
furniture design.
I feel my furniture has a sculptural element also.
The wonderous nature of wood in its near infinite
variety is why I stay excited about this work.
Hopefully I will continue for some years to come.

The old church
building above was acquired by me in December of
2005. The interior is now a 2000 sq. ft. woodshop. A
nice country setting with lots of wood everywhere. |

Each
cabinet evolves one at a time. The proportions
and dimensions of the piece depend upon the
planks of wood that I have and how they relate
to each other. Basically I want to make things
that I like. I want to feel good about the work.
A piece of my soul is attached to each.
