Bio: Kathleen Kirkpatrick grew
up in Pittsburgh, Pa., she graduated from Dominic
High School in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the
computer programming school ECPI in Pittsburgh PA.
She moved to Titusville, Pa. with her husband Ed
where she had their son, Scott. Ed took a job with
the Department of Defense working for the US Navy in
Mechanicsburg PA, which moved them to the Harrisburg
Pennsylvania area, where they had their daughter,
Kelly in 1976.
Kathleen Studied oils with Leonard Filgate and Mary
Kay Fager in Camp Hill Pennsylvania, and later
studied watercolor with Ann Fitzpatrick, Guy
Lipscomb, Tom Lynch, and Gen Garon.
She taught as Artist in residence at Shaull School
in 1988 and has done demos for art associations and
adult classes. Kathleen studied pastels with Susan
Kuznitsky in 1989.
She has held offices in the Carlisle Art Association
and the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors.
She has two limited edition prints out; “Fishing
with Dad” and “Pride of the Susquehanna”. The Mayor
of Harrisburg Pennsylvania proudly displays one of
Kathleen’s prints in his office on the wall behind
his desk. Kathleen has also had her work on display
in the Pennsylvania State Governor’s Mansion.
The Harrisburg Art Association kept her paintings
continuously on display in their sales office where
many were sold.
Kathleen has done many one man shows such as
Kettering Towers (Dayton OH), Hershey Hospital
(Hershey PA), The William Penn Museum (Harrisburg
PA), Gallery 110 (Mechanicsburg PA), Smith Framing
and Victorian Gallery (Harrisburg PA), Carlisle Army
Barracks Gallery (Carlisle PA), the Torpedo Factory
in Old Town Alexandria Virginia, and several
Harrisburg area restaurants.
When her husband’s job took him to the Pentagon in
1992, Kathleen was able to study portraiture with
Danny Dawson at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria
Virginia. Kathleen had a very successful show in
Fairfax Virginia that year and also exhibited
paintings at Washington DC’s Cherry Blossom
festival.
From there Kathleen moved with her husband to Dayton
OH, back to Harrisburg PA, and then to the
Philadelphia area and now most recently after her
husband’s retirement from the DoD, she lives in
Greencastle IN.
Kathleen has been painting for the past 35 years.
She has sold many paintings, as well as, limited
edition prints to collectors throughout
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and California. Her
love of color and the diversity of people are a
large part of what she tries to express in her art.
Many of the artist’s works are displayed in local
private collections in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio,
California, North Carolina, Florida, Sweden, Saudi
Arabia and Budapest Hungary. |
