Bio:
I have always lived in the Terre
Haute area and have a family of three children - two
daughters and a son. I am the proud grandmother of
eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I
have a Master of Science degree in Education from
Indiana State University and taught Home Economics
at a local high school.
A
lifetime search for the perfect medium has finally
ended in creating unusual artwork with fused glass.
I have always been a crafter, but after retiring I
have been able to devote more time to develop
artistic pieces of work. Ceramics, woodworking,
weaving, painting, stained glass and many more
mediums have been tried and turned away. Fusing
glass into artistic forms has been the most
satisfactory and exciting medium; there seems to be
an endless amount of learning and creating to keep
my interest.
Fused
glass can be the easiest or the most complex of art
forms. It involves taking a plain piece of glass and
some smaller cut pieces and arranging them into a
pleasing visual form. After the design is
satisfactory it is transformed by placing it into
kiln, applying intense heat, allowing it to soften,
take a new shape and finally to morph into a new
object entirely.
History tells us that Fused Glass has been around
since biblical times; however, during the last few
years it has a new rebirth of interest. Many artists
are using glass as their medium and each one has a
different approach on how to enhance its
natural beauty. The large variety of possibilities
is the glass's draw to the imagination of the
artist. It continues to peak my imagination and my
desire to create. |
