Our Story

The Pohlman Meat Processing story began with the marriage of Ted Pohlman and Kathern Smith in 1956. Ted has been in the butchers trade since he began work at Home Packing Company at the age of 16. Following surviving the tragic explosion there he moved to Valentine Packing Company followed by Rowe Packing and later to Stark and Wetzel in Indianapolis. During this time six children who have worked along side their parents were added to their family .

In 1962 the foundations for the current plant and business were laid. Ted, Kathern and the children built the entire plant which opened for business in 1968. The family home was located on the property and the business became a part of the daily existence of the family.

Over the years additions have been made to the meat processing facility to bring it to the modern state-of-the art plant it is today. One of the outstanding hallmarks of Ted is his determination to have the most modern and most professional meat processing facility in the area and to provide the best service to all of their customers..
