About folk art

Folk Art, at all levels of sophistication: be it Americana, Naïve, Whimsical, or Primitive, is an untrained and untaught art. Most often, Folk Artists do not fit into defined genres of the art world and are considered as "outsiders" in the world of creativity. But Art, itself, is an expression of the heart and of the mind. It requires an incubation period of thoughtful pondering and calling upon the muses before the piece is finally born. Folk Art, too, is wrung from life experiences requiring an intervention by the muse, and, in the end, though untrained and untaught, it reflects the vision seen in the eye of the artist; simple,  and most of all, diverse.
